Yankton Miracle Hockey
What is Miracle Hockey?
Yankton Miracle Hockey represents two themes.
First, it signifies the achievement of the 1980 USA Olympic Hockey Team, coached
by Herb Brooks. Herb married Patti Lane who grew up in Yankton. The 1980 team
was a blue-collar team who engineered what is perhaps the greatest sports moment
of the twentieth century. This group brought us a legacy of hope, hard work, and
a homegrown triumph.
Secondly, the inception of an indoor ice rink for Yankton was a dream of a small
group, of whom many said hockey would never happen in Yankton. The spirit of the
1980 USA Olympic Team parallels what many said this group would never accomplish
in Yankton.
The Miracle mascot symbolizes hockey, the 1980 Olympic Spirit and the Yankton community’s
effort to build this facility.
